One night while lying in bed, I realized that my breathing was seriously impaired with my excess weight. I remember thinking, if I don't do something now I won't live to see my 40th birthday. I had started going to the gym and, while I was losing weight, it was extremely slow. In the spring of 2002 a friend of ours convinced Kevin to sign up for Melissa's Road Race 10 km. Kevin and I both tried running together, but for some reason, I hated it. I always used the excuse: "I can't run because my knees are bad". Doesn't that sound familiar? Now, over six years later, I'm healthier, happier and I firmly believe the difference between try and triumph is a little "umph"
